2005-11-06-Aids CD Rom designed for S Africa
A team from Coventry University have designed a new CD Rom to be distributed in South Africa to warn people about the dangers of Aids.
Two graduates and a graphic design student developed the project using characters from a best-selling Aids awareness book they also produced.
They have been working with a HIV/Aids drama group at Tshwane University of Technology in Soshanguve, South Africa.
Students there have provided voices for the animated characters on the CD Rom.
The work is being led by Coventry University graduate Jeanette Clements, assisted by final year graphic design student Andy Brown and graduate Sarah Darley.
It is part of the Technical and Business Education Initiative in South Africa.
Project Director at Coventry University Professor Jane Conlon said: "We had an amazing reaction to our first project, the How 2b Aids Aware book. It sold more than 60,000 copies.
"Aids is an enormous problem in Africa and it is important that information about Aids, and its effects, is readily available.
"The CD Rom is just a continuation of that and by using local voices, we are hoping people will take more notice and get really involved in the lives of the characters and take notice of what they do."
